1. Who we are
Platewise ("we", "us", "our") is a meal planning application operated as a personal project. If you have questions about this policy, you can contact us at hello@platewise.app.
2. What information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information — your email address and password when you register, or your Google account details if you sign in with Google
- Profile information — your first name, username, dietary requirements, allergens, and profile avatar that you choose to add
- Recipes — recipes you add manually, import from URLs, or scan from photos
- Meal plans — the meals you plan each week
- Cupboard items — ingredients you mark as being in your cupboard
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — basic information about how you use the app, collected via Sentry for error monitoring (browser type, errors encountered)
- Cookies and local storage — we store your session and preferences locally on your device
Photos
When you use the photo scan feature, images are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for recipe extraction. Photos are processed and immediately discarded — they are not stored on our servers.
3. How we use your information
- To provide and operate the Platewise service
- To sync your recipes and meal plans across devices
- To show your recipes on the community page if you choose to make them public
- To send password reset emails when requested
- To detect and fix errors in the app
- To improve the service over time
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating Platewise.
4. Who we share your data with
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate Platewise:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored on Supabase servers. Supabase Privacy Policy
- Anthropic — the AI provider used for recipe scanning and import. Recipe text and photos are sent to Anthropic for processing only. Anthropic Privacy Policy
- Cloudflare — our hosting and infrastructure provider. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
- Sentry — used for error monitoring. Error reports may include browser type and anonymous usage context. Sentry Privacy Policy
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with any third parties.
5. Community recipes
If you choose to make a recipe public, it will be visible to all Platewise users. Your username will be displayed alongside recipes you share publicly. You can make a recipe private again at any time by editing it and changing the visibility setting.
6. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your personal data — including your profile, recipes, meal plans and cupboard items — is permanently deleted within 24 hours. Community recipes you have shared may be removed separately.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the UK or European Economic Area, you have the following rights:
- Access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — you can update your profile information at any time within the app
- Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Danger Zone
- Portability — you can export your recipe library from Settings → Export Backup
- Objection — you can contact us to object to any processing of your data

8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Your password is hashed and never stored in plain text. Row-level security policies on our database ensure users can only access their own data.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
9. Children
Platewise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of Platewise after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
