1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Platewise ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
These terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Platewise regarding your use of the Service.
2. Description of service
Platewise is a meal planning web application that allows users to:
- Store and organise personal recipe collections
- Plan weekly meals and generate shopping lists
- Import recipes from external websites
- Scan recipe books and cards using AI-powered photo extraction
- Share recipes with the Platewise community
- Track cupboard inventory
The Service is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in future.
3. Your account
Registration
You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use Platewise. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
Account responsibility
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@platewise.app if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use Platewise only for its intended purpose — meal planning and recipe management. You must not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Share content that is offensive, harmful, discriminatory, or illegal
- Attempt to access other users' data or accounts
- Scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the Service at scale
- Use automated tools to access the Service in ways that could damage or overload it
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Share content that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others

5. Your content
Ownership
You retain ownership of all recipes and content you add to Platewise. By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and display your content for the purpose of providing the Service.
Public recipes
When you make a recipe public, you grant other Platewise users the right to view and save it to their own library. You confirm that you have the right to share any content you make public — do not share recipes that are copyrighted without permission.
Content removal
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms or our Acceptable Use Policy without notice.
6. AI features
Platewise uses AI to help with recipe importing and scanning. Please be aware:
- AI-extracted recipes may contain errors and should be reviewed before use
- We are not responsible for inaccuracies in AI-generated content
- Do not rely on AI-extracted nutritional information for medical purposes
- Photos submitted for recipe scanning are processed by Anthropic and not retained
7. Intellectual property
The Platewise name, logo, and application code are our intellectual property. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute any part of the Service without our written permission.
Recipe content from third-party websites imported via URL remains the property of the original publisher. Import features are provided for personal use only.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Platewise is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed £100.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep Platewise available at all times but cannot guarantee continuous availability. We may take the Service offline for maintenance, updates, or in the event of technical issues.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time with reasonable notice where possible.
10. Account termination
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger Zone. This will permanently delete all your data.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, or in cases of prolonged inactivity, with reasonable notice where possible.
11. Governing law
These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
